- Can more than one business join from the same industry?
No. BNI is considered a "closed" networking group, which means that only one business from each industry can join a partiular chapter. If the seat for a partiular industry is taken in our chapter, it may be open in another chapter locally, so it would be worth looking into, and we would be happy to refer you to another BNI group locally.
- Why do you charge $5 per meeting?
The $5 per meeting charge is a charge not only for our visitors but for our regular members as well. It covers the chapter's weekly costs for the meeting space and food.
- Does it cost to join GwinNettworkers? If so, how much?
It does cost to join BNI, $485 per year. Annual renewals are slightly less expensive. Most of our clients make up what they spent on membership quite quickly.
- What are "spheres" in GwinNettworkers?
Spheres in GwinNettworkers are the smaller divisions within our chapter. Each Sphere contains members who are in a similar industries to further the networking networking relationships in a smaller group environment. The ultimate goal of the spheres division is to deepen relationships between members and pass more referrals to similar businesses. Every member is allowed to be a part of one sphere.
- What is the "Giver's Gain" philosophy for BNI?
Giver's Gain means that if we focus on finding and giving qualified referrals to other members, we will also benefit 'down the road' with increased business.
- What is a referral? How does it differ from a lead?
A lead is just a name, while a referral means the person reffering knows the business and you and has cleared the way for you making contact for potential business.
- Is there accountability for referrals passed and revenue?
Yes. GwinNettworkers uses an online system called Chapter Tracker, and the members record their revenue generated-- at the Chapter Tracker website, and it is tabulated. Goals can be set online there as well, and referrals can be tracked too. Members are also reviewed annually upon their yearly renewal date by the Membership Committee, and they must be re-approved for the next year's participation in the group.
- How do I join?
Visit a BNI Chapter meeting - up to 2 times - submit your application, along with a check for the initial fee, to the chapter Vice President or Membership Chair.
- What is a 1 on 1?
A meeting (coffee, breakfast or lunch) of 2 individuals from a BNI Chapter, outside of a regular meeting, with the purpose of getting to know each other and their business services/products better. A great way to find out how best to make referrals.
- What is a 60 second presentation?
An 'elevator' speech, telling the group a little about your business and what makes a great referral for you.
- Are there attendance requirements?
Yes. BNI requires that members themselves be present weekly at the meetings, or they are required to have an invited guest substitute for them in a meeting. Substitutes represent the member business that week, and presents their 60 second presentation. The Guest is also able to present his/her 60-second presentation about his/her own business.
